Traditionally tailors have accurately measured the human body size for garment making with measuring tape based on their experience. Methodically we use the same system of garments measurement to evaluate garment and that we use the same terminology to complete these measurements process. They use some essential key points of measurement to get a perfect pattern and get a perfect sample. Every reputed garment manufacturing industry has a garment measurement department. Measurements of garments can also contribute to minimize production time and reduce production cost. ![]() Garment measurement guidelines should be used when reviewing size specifications, measuring garments and also creating sample product. Garment measurement techniques have been designed to show how and where to measure a wide variety of different measurement points on finishing garments across all product areas. Measurement specification mainly comes from the buyer to get the actual size of each and every part of the garment. Sometimes only base measurement is not enough for preparing this. There are 3 ways to help choose a specific garment size to sew (all available from the pattern listing page) if you are "in between" sizes:ġ. If your measurements are slightly different than our size chart, choose the closest size, as none of our patterns are tailored so that they require a perfect fit. The size chart indicates the pattern size closest to your body shape. Note the measurements in the first section of the size chart above are in centimetres (metric) and the second section is in inches (imperial). WAIST: Measure around the waist, with the tape measure flat against the figure and snug but not too tight. The tape measure should be flat against the figure, straight across the back and not too tight. If you do not have a dress makers measuring tape (one that is soft and can hug your body), you can use a piece of string to place around your body, mark the length and then spread the string out on a long ruler. Use a tape measure over your underwear or form fitting clothing and compare your body measurements with those on our size chart, choosing the size that closest matches your measurements.
